Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) announced three library locations in St. Lawrence and Jefferson Counties have been allocated a total of $211,816 in state aid for library construction projects through the New York State Library, a part of the New York State Education Department. The awards are supported by a $34 million capital fund appropriation.

The Canton Free Library on 8 Park St. in Canton, St. Lawrence County was awarded $56,250. The funds will enable this location to replace two boilers for heat and hot water. Additionally, the Canton Free Library on 212 Rensselaer St. in Rensselaer Falls, St. Lawrence County was awarded $33,050 for the purpose of converting the basement into library storage and programming space. The North Country Library System facility on 22072 County Route 190 in Watertown, Jefferson County was awarded $122,516 to remediate asbestos, upgrade lighting to LED, create a server/file room and office space, increase storage and install a generator.

“We are appreciative of the construction aid funding awards for six different capital projects within the North Country Library System that have been allocated to us through the State Aid for Library Construction Program. The funding supports much-needed upgrades and provides for additional programming space as we continue to provide value-added services throughout the North Country,” said Paulette Roes, North Country Library System Executive Director.

“I’m incredibly grateful that these local libraries within the 116th Assembly District were awarded funds to carry out critical projects. These libraries will now be able to better serve their employees and community members and support their longevity for years to come,” Gray said. “I’m proud to have voted for bill A.3004-D in this year’s state budget, which included funding for capital projects such as this. These institutions foster literacy, critical thinking and a lifelong love for learning, playing a pivotal role in education at all stages of life. I will continue to support crucial investments into our communities,” Gray concluded.
