Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown), in a strong effort to prioritize public safety and the well-being of our community, has introduced a new bill aimed at regulating and prohibiting roadside signage for the sale of cannabis. This bill, A.8200, will have a significant impact on ensuring responsible signage practices, particularly concerning youth.

“With the rapid expansion of the cannabis industry, it’s imperative we adopt measures to protect the vulnerable members of our community, including our youth. Studies have shown early exposure to substance-related advertising can have a lasting influence on the decision-making process of adolescents. I am committed to creating a safe and healthy environment for all residents,” Gray said.

“The rollout by New York state for cannabis sales has been an abomination, and that is clearly evident by the opening of stores outside of the licensing process, haphazard sign placement and even more dangerous, illicit drugs being sold out of some locations. By banning roadside signage for cannabis sales, we aim to limit the exposure of our youth to these potentially harmful influences. With my bill, any violation of this ban will attract a civil penalty.”

“I respectfully call upon my fellow legislators, community leaders and stakeholders in the cannabis industry to support the passage of my bill to prioritize the safety and well-being of our youth and ensure the cannabis industry operates with integrity and consideration for its impact on the local community,” Gray concluded.
