Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) supports his legislative colleagues in introducing new legislation related to the ongoing migrant crisis. Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo (R,C-Sayville) and Sen. Andrew Lanza’s (R,C-Staten Island) bill would restore cooperation between New York courts and law enforcement agencies with federal immigration authorities in cases involving the arrest or conviction of illegal migrants.

“The migrant crisis is not an abstract or distant concern; it has a direct and immediate impact on our communities in the North Country. The failure of national leadership to secure borders, leaving not only the entire state but the northern border in particular, vulnerable to the consequences of inadequate immigration policies must be resolved. I support the legislative efforts led by Assemblyman Gandolfo and Sen. Lanza to restore collaboration between law enforcement agencies at all levels. A unified approach is crucial in addressing the challenges posed by the migrant crisis in the region and I am dedicated to finding effective solutions that prioritize the safety and well-being of those in the North Country,” said Gray.
