Pheffer Amato & CB 14 Pause Proposed Homeless Shelter on Brunswick Ave
Far Rockaway, NY – New York State Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato issued the following statement regarding the announced “pause” on the construction of a proposed homeless shelter on Brunswick Avenue:
July 15, 2025
“Through the advocacy of our neighbors who reached out to voice their concern, and the amazing partnership with Queens Community Board 14 and my office, zoning irregularities and procedural violations were discovered for the proposed homeless shelter at 12-60 Brunswick Avenue in Far Rockaway. After contacting the NYC Department of Buildings, I am proud to report that a “pause” has been ordered on the project with a full and in-depth audit to be conducted. This is a major victory as we were not going to sit back and allow the City to once again take advantage of our community as we are over saturated with homeless shelters and various types of supportive housing. We will provide further updates as they become available.”
