Assemblyman Schiavoni’s First Bill Passed in the NYS Assembly
Albany, NY – Assemblyman Tommy John Schiavoni passed his first bill in the New York State Assembly: A.2436, sponsored by Assemblyman Schiavoni, would tackle the affordability crisis for residents of parts of the First Assembly District.
A.2436, now approved by both houses of the State Legislature, includes a chapter amendment which authorizes the Town of Southampton to enact a Homestead Exemption, an initiative which Assemblyman Schiavoni worked on as Councilman on the Southampton Town Board. This Homestead Tax Exemption, once signed by Governor Hochul and enacted by Southampton Town, would benefit full-time residents in Southampton Town enrolled in the STAR exemption by providing a reduction of up to $50,000 in assessed property value.
Assemblyman Schiavoni said: “This exemption, if passed by the Town of Southampton, will assist families and individuals to address the challenges of affordability in this area. I worked on this initiative as a Councilman and successfully passed it as a member of the Assembly.”
