Barclay Encourages Summer Readers To Send in Reading Challenge

Summer Reading Party Set for Sept. 24 at Oswego Public Library Oswego Bookmobile Partners to Give Away Free Books

Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C,I-Pulaski) today encouraged readers who are participating in the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge to send in their completed challenges by Friday, Sept. 16. Participants will receive a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate and will be invited to a summer reading party to celebrate their accomplishments with their families. This year the party will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. at the Oswego Public Library. The Oswego Bookmobile will help to celebrate and will be on hand to give out free books to children at the event.

The annual Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to read with a parent or on their own for at least 15 minutes each day during the months of July and August. The challenge can be combined with any other local library challenge.

“I am proud to offer this annual reading challenge to kids and their families. Thank you to the Oswego Public Library and the Bookmobile for their partnership in this annual event. Reading often and early to children has been proven to make a difference in early childhood development. For older kids, independent reading provides an opportunity to learn about topics of their choosing,” said Leader Barclay. “It’s a great habit to develop at an early age and I look forward to meeting the students and parents at the party.”

Families are encouraged to send completed calendars to Assemblyman Will Barclay, 19 Canalview Mall, Fulton, N.Y. 13069. Pictures or PDFs of completed challenges may also be emailed to barclayw@nyassembly.gov.
