Barclay Troubled By Passage Of Anti-Farmer Legislation
A statement from Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski) in response to the passage of Assembly Majority bill A.8419.
Passage of the Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act will crush New York states farm industry and force many small farms out of business, said Barclay. Our dairy and agriculture industries are already struggling, yet downstate members of the majority see fit to pile on with new regulations. In upstate New York, farms are central to our local economies. This bill will drastically change a system that was put in place to benefit farmers and their workforce. Forcing these regulations will lead to inflated payroll costs and result in less hours and more job cuts. The New York City Assembly Majority has passed this bill with little understanding of the damage it could cause, and I urge the governor to reconsider this legislation before signing it into law.
