Magnarelli Secures $6,000 for Cathedral Emergency Services
Assemblyman William B. Magnarelli (D-Syracuse) recently secured $6,000 to help renovate the kitchen and restroom facilities at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception’s Emergency Services.
The facility is used for the Cathedral’s Breakfast Program which serves a hot meal to 75 to 100 homeless men from the Oxford Inn and the YMCA every Wednesday morning. The program began a dozen years ago and is supported by food donations from various parishes and volunteers.
"I am happy to help such a wonderful facility. The services provided by Cathedral Emergency Services are invaluable to our community," Assemblyman Magnarelli said.
The facility is utilized for many community events, including the arrangement and distribution of Thanksgiving food baskets. Cathedral Emergency Services serves 500 households monthly from its food pantry and advocacy efforts. They also provide clothing and furniture referrals.
"We are delighted to have this assistance without which we could not make the needed renovation of both the men’s bathroom and the kitchen used by the Breakfast Program each Wednesday and by our Friendship Club each month," Father Champlin said.
