Magnarelli Helps Secure Additional $7.4M State Funding for the City of Syracuse
Syracuse to receive $76.29 million total through Aid and Incentives to Municipalities (AIM) Program which helps ease taxpayer’s burden
Syracuse – New York State Assemblyman William B. Magnarelli (D-120th) announced that the City of Syracuse will receive an additional $7.4 million or 10.8 percent over last year’s New York State funding. While Governor Paterson had proposed cutting back on the original executive budget’s increase in Aid and Incentives to Municipalities (AIM) funding, Assemblyman Magnarelli worked to prevent that decrease ($1.5 million) and fought for an additional $1.2 million for the City of Syracuse.
“In addition to these increases, I’ve secured a ‘spinup’, an acceleration of future aid, of $5 million for Syracuse so that our community can access those funds now,” Magnarelli noted.
“Syracuse is among many municipalities that need fiscal assistance,” Magnarelli said. “This funding will ease Syracuse’s burden so that it isn’t carried over to property taxpayers.”
AIM eases the property tax burden by sending funding to local municipalities to help them meet their financial needs. By bolstering state aid to Syracuse, the local economy becomes healthier and ensures a fiscally sound city government.
“Now more than ever, Syracuse needs this help to provide for the community and help ease the burden on taxpayers,” Magnarelli said. “It’s important that we do everything we can, especially in these difficult economic times, to protect property taxpayers from taking the hardest hit.”
