Magnarelli Announces Funding for Syracuse Area Projects
Hotel Syracuse, Interoperable Communications, Connective Corridor funded in final state budget
“There are a number of important local economic development projects that will receive funding in the final state budget, including $5 million in funding to help revamp the Hotel Syracuse – a landmark in the City of Syracuse; $2 million for Onondaga County’s Interoperable Communications System; and $20 million for the Connective Corridor.
“The new Hotel Syracuse will include hotel space, ballrooms, meeting rooms, apartments and condominiums – vital features in attracting much-needed economic developing to downtown Syracuse, especially in the South Salina Street corridor. The new owners have already made investments in the renovation of the hotel’s garage, and the hotel itself will be completed in 2009. The Assembly, Senate and Governor funded the $5 million project equally.
“Onondaga County is ready to launch an interoperable communications system – an innovative network linking all police, fire and emergency workers through one system. The $2 million in funding will be used to provide hardware and software for the project – which will improve the county’s emergency response system by streamlining communications. The Assembly and Senate funded this project equally.
“The future of economic development in Central New York is at a crossroads, and we must be proactive in making investments in key locations that span both cultural institutions and private developments. Funding the Connective Corridor will enhance the emerging arts and business districts and create a thriving destination for small businesses, budding entrepreneurs, high-tech industry and tourism in Syracuse.”
