Magnarelli: Students Will Continue to Benefit from After School Programs
Assembly secures funding for successful initiative
Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli (D-Syracuse) announced that the Assembly successfully restored $30.2 million in funding for the Extended Day/School Violence Prevention Program.
“Students need a safe place to go after school,” Magnarelli said. “This program provides them with a constructive environment where they can do their homework and participate in fun-filled recreational activities.”
The Extended Day/School Violence Prevention Program provides funding for schools and community-based organizations that offer after-school programs and activities. The program is designed to help keep students on the right track and out of harm’s way. Locally, Magnarelli secured $555,000 in funding for the Syracuse City School District.
Additionally, the Assembly secured $100,000 for the Office of Professional Development at Syracuse University — a program aimed at addressing the professional development needs of educators and education communities in Central New York.
“The Extended Day/Violence Prevention Program keeps our kids productive,” Magnarelli said. “Initiatives like these can make a real difference in a student’s life. I will continue fighting for positive programs like these that keep our students on the path toward success.”
