Assemblyman Magnarelli Announces $50,000 for Solvay Veterans Memorial
Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli (D-Syracuse/Geddes/Van Buren) today announced that the Village of Solvay will receive $50,000 for renovations and repairs to the Veterans Memorial at Woods Road Park.
"By taking care of the veterans memorial, we pay further tribute to those it was built to honor," Magnarelli said. "The park is also a wonderful meeting place for friends and families."
The funding will be used for upgrades and repairs to the memorial, including new sidewalks, fencing, benches, landscaping, painting and garbage receptacles. Another scheduled improvement is a gazebo in the center of the park, which will be available to the community for activities like concerts and weddings. Assemblyman Magnarelli secured the funding for the village through the New York State Dormitory Authority.
"It is important that the park remains a fitting memorial to veterans, as well as an inviting gathering place for local residents," Magnarelli said. "Maintaining our public spaces is also a great way to make our area more attractive to businesses and visitors."
This funding builds on Magnarelli’s efforts to expand local services and improve the quality of life for residents. He has consistently fought for increased municipal aid to cities – helping local governments provide essential services, such as police and fire protection and garbage pickup.
"I look forward to continuing to work with local governments to improve our parks and other public amenities," Magnarelli concluded. "And I am always willing to join the efforts of local veterans organizations to honor the men and women who serve our country."
