Ramos delivers results for Suffolk County students

Putting a quality education first

Ramos secures $12 million more than last year for Brentwood schools

“Our children deserve the best education, schools and teachers. By rejecting the governor’s cuts, we put our children first and gave our educators the tools they need to teach. This bipartisan budget is the right choice for Suffolk County’s working families, and I will continue fighting to ensure Brentwood School District receives its fair share.”

Assemblyman Ramos also successfully fought for:

  • $4.2 million more in education aid than what the governor proposed

  • a historic 5 percent increase in building aid – helping to provide our children with a safe, modern environment where they can focus on learning

  • full restoration of BOCES aid

  • the rejection of the governor’s attempt to cut funding for special education programs

Demanding higher standards and more accountability

Most of our schools are responsible, efficient, and trustworthy. To help ensure all schools in Long Island and New York State are spending tax dollars wisely, Assemblyman Ramos has:

  • sponsored legislation aimed at improving school district oversight and accountability (A.6082)

  • provided $2.9 million more for school audits, to better ensure schools spend tax dollars wisely

“Our schools and our students deserve their fair share – and our property taxpayers deserve to know their dollars are being spent wisely. I have been working to provide the resources and the accountability to make Brentwood schools the springboard for tomorrow’s leaders.”

Keeping college affordable

The bipartisan budget makes the necessary investments in higher education, including:
  • rejecting SUNY tuition hikes

  • fully restoring the governor’s cuts to TAP and opportunity programs

  • increasing aid to community colleges by $115 per student, which means nearly $1.9 million more to Suffolk County Community College
