Dear Friend,
As your Assemblywoman, my mission has always been to effectively advocate in Albany on issues directly affecting the families in my district.
I am pleased to announce that my community office is open for your in-person visits by appointment. Whatever the problem or concern, I urge you to contact us to see if we can help!
And, with fall approaching quickly, we’re bringing back the successful Flu Shot program and highly anticipated Free Shredding Service (see inside for details). I am very much looking forward to seeing more of you and your neighbors at these and other local events.
To keep up on the latest from my office, sign up for my e-newsletter by calling (718) 648-4700 or emailing me at weinsth@nyassembly.gov, and follow me on twitter @heleneweinstein.
Keep safe and stay healthy!
Sincerely,
This past year, during our legislative session, my colleagues and I worked together to secure significant victories for our communities:
Supporting students and teachers
Providing relief for families and small businesses
Investing in infrastructure
National Night Out creates positive relationships between NYPD Officers and the communities they’re sworn to protect. Assemblywoman Weinstein joined Councilwoman Farah Louis and Bob Kaplan, Director of The JCRC’s Center for Community Leadership at the 67th Precinct’s event, and Joseph Auerbach, Crew Chief for the Flatlands Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and officers of the Marine Park Community Association, at the 63rd Precinct’s event in Marine Park.
As Chair of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, Assemblywoman Weinstein has secured a significant amount of funding in the state budget for a variety of programming serving our community, which includes, but is not limited to:
Anti-Gang/Gun Violence Programming - $95,000:
NYPD 61st Precinct, The 67th Precinct Clergy Council, and East Flatbush Village Inc.
Libraries and Adult Education - $100,000
All local branches of the Brooklyn Public Library & the Council of Jewish Organizations of Flatbush.
Arts, Education and Recreational Services - $385,000

Council, and New York City Center for music/dance programming at local schools.
Legal Services - $200,000

Senior Programming - $125,000

The Consumer Credit Fairness Act (CCFA) is finally a reality, having passed both the Assembly and Senate. The CCFA:
brings an unprecedented level of protection for consumers by reducing the statute of limitations on credit card debt claims from six years to three, ensures a debt doesn’t languish and paperwork is still readily available.
Requires debt collectors to provide an affidavit from the original creditor as well as proof of the history and ownership of the debt.
Allows defendants who feel as if they were improperly notified of the suit to claim improper serving of notice as a defense and seek dismissal of the case.
Assemblywoman Weinstein’s Community Office can help you apply for various programs including but not limited to:
NYC-210 - a rebate of $62.50 (individuals) or $125 (couples) who do not file a Tax Return and can’t be claimed a dependent on another’s return. You can apply for the last 4 years!
Disabled Parking Permit Applications - issues a permit or placard to individuals with a documented disability allowing for either on-street and off-street parking.
Senior Citizen/Disabled Homeowner’s Exemption - a reduction in property taxes for homeowners over the age of 65, or those with a documented disability, and a combined income below $58,399.
Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption - a rent freeze for heads of household, 62 or older, who pay more than one-third (1/3) of their monthly income on rent and make under $50,000 a year.
