Come hear presentations from Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum, Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal, the Campaign for Better Schools, and the Parent Commission on School Governance on Mayoral Control and let your voice be heard on this important issue.
Under Mayoral Control, the Mayor is granted broad powers to reorganize the schools and appoint a chancellor to run them. Mayoral Control abolished the Board of Education and put the system’s 1.1 million students squarely under the mayor’s authority. In 2009, the New York State Legislature will vote on whether to renew Mayor Control of the New York City Public School System.
This event is Co-Sponsored by: Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer, State Senators Thomas Duane, Eric Schneiderman, and Bill Perkins and Assemblymember Richard Gottfried, Councilmembers Gale A. Brewer, Inez Dickens and Melissa Mark-Viverito, Community Board 7, Alliance for Quality Education, and Class Size Matters.
