A record increase in funding

This year’s budget increases state education funding by a record $1.75 billion, including a $644 million aid increase for New York City schools.

Ensuring NYC children get their fair share

The budget continues our commitment to the 4-year Campaign for Fiscal Equality plan. It reflects a second year of record school aid increases because New York City schools need the funding necessary to provide our kids with a top-notch education.

Supporting universal pre-K

The budget provides an extra $35.3 million to augment the number of 4-year-old children enrolled in pre-K, bringing New York City even closer to universal pre-K. Assemblymember Bing remains committed to ensuring that every child has an opportunity to get a head start on education through universal pre-kindergarten.

Protecting NYC from the wrong choices

The final budget that Bing supported:

  • Rejects a proposal that would create a year-and-a-half lag in funding for new school buildings; and

  • Ensures school funding estimates are more accurate and issued in a more timely manner, so schools can make plans accordingly.

Keeping libraries open in our community

Assemblymember Bing has strongly supported libraries during his five years in office. He led the fight—and succeeded—to ensure library aid is based on the most current census data, so New York City receives its fair share. Last year, Bing also secured $50,000 for the Yorkville Library Children’s Room for renovations.
