Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz’ ongoing efforts to make
New York safer
Assemblyman Dinowitz has also fought hard to protect New Yorkers
from criminals by voting for tough measures to combat illegal guns
and increase penalties for cop killers. His efforts include measures
to:
Ban the military-grade .50-caliber rifle which can accurately
pierce armor from a distance of almost two miles (A.4471-A)
Ban convicted felons from obtaining firearms (A.1170)
Expand the ballistic identification databank to assist law
enforcement officers in tracking down guns used in crimes (A.968-B)
Require law enforcement officers to report guns, spent bullets and
shell casings found at crime scenes to the ballistic
identification databank (A.2213)
Crack down on the practice of "straw buyers" who legally
purchase firearms for resale to criminals (A.9280)
Unfortunately, the Assembly’s efforts to enact these bills
have been stymied by the NRA-backed Senate majority, which
continues to oppose any common-sense efforts to crack down on
illegal guns. Assemblyman Dinowitz will continue in the year
ahead to press for tough measures that will keep New York the
safest large state in the nation.
