Dear Neighbor,
Throughout the year people stop me on the street to tell me how helpful they find the
New York City Parking Calendar.
Most people say having the parking regulations handy saves them time, money and the
headache of having their car towed. Obeying parking regulations also helps with street
cleaning and reduces traffic congestion.
Here is your 2009 New York City Parking Calendar. It lists the days of the year that certain
parking regulations are suspended throughout the five boroughs.
Be sure to read all parking signs carefully. If you get an undeserved parking ticket, call me
and I’ll send you my brochure entitled Your Rights When The PVO Is Wrong.
Drive safely and remember to buckle up.
Sincerely,
Jan. 1

Major Legal Holiday Rules in Effect
Major Legal Holiday Rules: On major legal holidays (formerly known
as Sunday rules), stopping, standing, and parking, are permitted except in areas where
no stopping, no standing and no parking rules are in effect seven days a week (for example:
No Standing Anytime). Parking meters will not be in effect on Major Legal Holidays (New
Year’s Day, New Year’s Day Observed, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day,
Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day).
When alternate side parking is suspended on days other than Major Legal Holidays, meter
parking and other regulations are in effect—so unless it’s a Major Legal Holiday, you
MUST feed the meter!
Double parking of passenger vehicles is illegal at all times, including street
cleaning days regardless of location, purpose or duration.
It is illegal to park within 15 feet of either side of a fire hydrant. Painted curbs at hydrant locations
do not indicate where you can park.
Reminder:
Parking meters are not in effect Sundays.
