Assemblywoman Amy Paulin
delivers for New York’s veterans

State leader providing for New York veterans
Assemblywoman Paulin has made it a priority to protect New York’s veterans, which is why she authored legislation to establish a real property tax exemption for Cold War veterans (Ch. 6 of 2008). Paulin also authored legislation to provide up to three years of service credit to members of the state public retirement systems for military service (A.6318-C, passed Assembly).

Low-interest mortgage program

Assemblywoman Paulin wants veterans to know about the state’s new Homes for Veterans Program, which offers low-interest mortgages to veterans and their spouses through SONYMA. Under the program:

  • fixed interest rates are 0.5 percent lower than conventional interest rates

  • veterans and their spouses or co-borrowers do not have to be first-time homebuyers and there are no points or interest fees

Affordable education opportunities

Assemblywoman Paulin fought for a state budget that provides veterans returning from combat a tuition grant – up to the value of in-state SUNY undergraduate tuition – which can be used at any public or private college or university in the state. Paulin also worked to improve the executive’s proposal and expand the scope of the program to cover more combat veterans.
