Assemblymember Cahill, Colleagues Seek Federal Disaster Monies for Flood Victims Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess), along with his colleagues Assemblymembers Aileen Gunther and Donna A. Lupardo, has contacted federal representatives Senators Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton and Congressman Maurice Hinchey to express the immediate and critical need for federal disaster relief monies to aid flood victims.
Senator Charles E. Schumer
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton
Congressman Maurice D. Hinchey Dear Senator Schumer, Senator Clinton and Congressman Hinchey: We write to respectfully request immediate consideration for emergency funding to aid the victims in our communities of the tremendous and unprecedented flooding that has occurred over the course of the past several days due to the relentless rains that have devastated our region. Much of New York’s Catskills Region, Hudson Valley and Southern Tier have sustained damages of an incredible magnitude from storms and swelling estuaries. The losses to homeowners and businesses and the destruction of roadways, bridges and other infrastructure have left the residents of portions of Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan and Broome Counties facing an insurmountable financial burden. It is imperative that any and all funding available through the Federal Emergency Disaster Agency and other sources be swiftly allocated to those in desperate need of assistance. We are aware that you have urged Governor Pataki to declare these portions of our state disaster areas. With swift action on the part of President Bush to do the same, the door will be open to offer financial assistance. Your help and advocacy in accomplishing this is imperative and most appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Please feel free to contact us if you require anything further. Sincerely,
