Magnarelli Honors Syracuse University Men's NCAA Basketball Championship Team

Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli, Speaker Sheldon Silver, and members of the New York State Assembly today recognized the tremendous achievements of the 2003 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament Champions, the Syracuse University Orangemen.

"As a Syracuse University graduate, season ticket holder and the Assembly representative for Syracuse University, it is with great honor that I congratulate head coach Jim Boeheim and each and every team member for their wonderful accomplishments," said Magnarelli.

At a morning reception, Magnarelli and Speaker Silver presented Coach Boeheim with an Assembly resolution honoring the team. Among the highlights of the resolution is recognition of the team's many attributes - on and off the basketball court - including their hard work, loyalty, sportsmanship and academic commitment.

The Syracuse Orangemen entered the NCAA Tournament as a number three seed in the Eastern Region. After two exciting victories in Boston, the team advanced to Albany to take part in the Sweet Sixteen. Upon winning the Eastern Region title, they headed to the Final Four championship in New Orleans, where the team won their first championship ever.
