** MEDIA ADVISORY **
Hawley Stands Up For Snowmobilers Upon discovering that this year's State Budget expropriated an estimated $1 million from the Snowmobile Trail Development and Maintenance Fund, Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R, I, C - Batavia) called on the State to immediately return the funds. Since then, many of his colleagues from both sides of the aisle, as well as thousands of New Yorkers, joined the Assemblyman by signing his petition calling on the Governor to return the funds. Hawley also authored and introduced legislation that would prohibit this sort of "accidental" transfer of dedicated unexpended monies from happening again. His legislation, Assembly BIll 10732, would prevent the transfer of funds from accounts that are specifically supported with a dedicated fee, such as the Snowmobile Trail Development and Maintenance Fund. Despite bi-partisan support for this bill, and a similar bill proposed by Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito, the regular Legislative Session has ended with this situation unresolved. Accordingly, Hawley and his colleagues in the Assembly are personally delivering the petitions to Governor Paterson's Executive Chamber in the State Capitol TOMORROW, June 25, 2008. All media and members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend.
