New York’s Economy:
- More than 800,000 New Yorkers are out of work.
- New York has one of the highest combined costs of doing business.
- Businesses and manufacturers face some of the highest energy, insurance, health care, and workers’ compensation costs in the country.
- The agricultural industry continues to face more costly labor regulations that put small farms out of business, hurting the small businesses they support, too.
Albany’s Plan for the Economy:
- Continue to pass bloated state budgets that overspend and increase taxes.
- Eliminate and/or increase fees on statewide economic development programs.
- Refuse to address skyrocketing property taxes that send employers and jobs out of the state.
Assemblyman Steve Hawley’s Plan:
- Cut government spending to help alleviate our overall tax burden.
- Reform the property tax formula so businesses, farms, and manufacturers can afford to stay in New York.
- Support Industrial Development Agencies and their job-creating programs.
- Provide energy tax credits to small businesses, farms, and manufacturers to help offset New York’s costly utility rates.
- Protect the agricultural industry from costly labor mandates that will hurt small farms and the small businesses they work with.
“Albany’s anti-business policies have eroded our state’s competitive edge.
In Albany, I will continue to support pro-business legislation that will help create jobs
and get New Yorkers back to work!”
