Tax Relief Today, Alternative Fuels Tomorrow
Assemblyman Giglio wants to lower gas prices and develop new alternative fuels. Here’s his plan:

Short Term:
On May 15th, Assemblyman Giglio voted to cap the state sales tax on gasoline at $2.00 per gallon. This will save motorists about $.04 per gallon at the pump, which adds up to $225 million in taxpayer savings.

Long Term:
Implement the Alternative Fuel Incentive Fund to promote research, development, and use of alternative energy fuels. $265 million generated from the state sales tax on the second dollar of gasoline per gallon will be channeled into the fund.

Assemblyman Giglio’s Alternative Fuel Incentive Fund:

  • $90 million for $500 income tax credits per hybrid or fuel flexible vehicle purchased

  • $90 million to fund an allocated credit for the installation or conversion of fueling stations for alternative fuels

  • $30 million for academic institutions dedicated to research and development of alternative fuel and energy efficiency in the transportation sector

  • $27 million to provide each of the 27 travel plazas on the Thruway with alternative fueling stations

  • $20 million for the construction of a cellulosic ethanol refinery
