Assemblyman Giglio helped secure bipartisan passage of the Dairy Assistance Program. The
program will help local dairy farmers who struggled with low milk prices last year.
The Dairy Assistance Program provided $30 million in cash payments to eligible dairy
farmers to help offset a devastating year caused by low milk prices and a rise in operating
costs. The payments were awarded in a timely fashion, which helped Southern Tier dairy
farmers remain financially viable in time for the spring planting season.
While the $30 million in aid to dairy farmers was a significant step in relieving the
burdens of the past year, it fell extremely short of the $60 million that Assemblyman
Giglio and many of his colleagues had sought. In the coming months, Assemblyman Giglio
will continue to fight for increased aid to all farmers who serve as the backbone of our
economy.
