Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay Recognizes Oswego County Senior Of The Year

Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski) presented a resolution to Barbara Dix at the Oswego County Office for the Aging’s annual picnic at Camp Zerbe. Barbara has a 47-year career preserving local history as a historian and was previously designated as the New York State Historian of the Year.

She was also recognized as the Village of Phoenix’s Woman of the Year and has been a volunteer for more than 70 years. Some of her service activities include board roles with the Heritage Foundation of Oswego County, Oswego County Tourism Advisory Council and the American Red Cross. In addition to receiving the resolution, attendees also honored Ms. Dix as “Oswego County’s Senior of the Year,” highlighting the dedication and positive impact she has on residents.

“Barbara has been a pillar of our community for decades,” said Leader Barclay. “Her generosity and spirit have lifted neighbors, strengthened our community and made life a little bit better for everyone. Volunteering for 70 years is an incredible achievement, and it is an honor to recognize Barbara’s remarkable contributions while celebrating the dedication, leadership and fellowship she continues to bring to Oswego County.”

The annual picnic also provided an opportunity to recognize the important work of the Oswego County Office for the Aging. The team supports seniors and their families through caregiving services, nutrition counseling, transportation and other programs that enhance quality of life and strengthen community connections. Today’s celebration recognized both Barbara’s achievements and the Office’s ongoing commitment to serving older residents across Oswego County.
