Budget Highlights |
The Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives (DPCA) oversees county probation departments and provides training and technical assistance relating to the supervision and treatment of convicted and adjudicated offenders. |
This agency is included in the Public Protection and General Government appropriation bill. |
State Operations |
The Executive proposes an All Funds State Operations appropriation of $1,888,000, representing a decrease of $265,000 or 12.3 percent from State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2003- 04. These savings are achieved primarily through an Executive proposal to transfer DPCA’s duties associated with administering all local grant programs to the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). These savings also include adjustments made to reflect the actual cost of current programs, as well as salary and other fixed cost savings. |
Aid To Localities |
The Executive proposes to shift funding for Probation Aid, Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) and local grant initiatives to DCJS. This transfer would allow the Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives to focus on statewide efforts such as improved technology, education, training and the development of performance based measures and standards. Further, the transfer would allow the Division to work on enhancing existing offender databases. |
Article VII |
The Executive proposes legislation that would authorize counties to assess probation fees to support probation services. |
