KEW GARDENS, NY – with days getting shorter and cooler temperatures settling in, Assemblyman Hevesi announced the final installation in the annual District 28 community cleanup series for this Sunday, November 5 at 10am, on Lefferts Boulevard in Kew Gardens – which will be held in partnership with Council Member Lynn Schulman, District Leader Mark Morrill, Queens Community Board 9, and We Are Kew Gardens.

In line with years past, the 2023 saw dozens of volunteers turn out, with participating students receiving service hours and letters of commendation for their efforts. Although unprecedented weekend rains and floodings resulted in a cancellation of multiple scheduled efforts – the series was able to see through cleanups in Glendale, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, and Ridgewood, culminating with Kew Gardens again for the final effort this Sunday.

Those interested in participating have been advised to RSVP with Assemblyman Hevesi’s office at hevesia@nyassembly.gov. All necessary supplies will be provided, along with coffee, donuts, and water for volunteers. Additionally, students will once again be able to receive service hours for their participation.

“Despite facing some challenges, we saw great turnout from the community, with many people coming out in less-than-ideal conditions to help maintain our neighborhoods. We could not have done this without our partners – Congresswoman Meng, Senator Addabbo, Council Member Schulman, District Leader Morrill, Community Board 6, Community Board 9, We Are Kew Gardens, and Metro Village of Forest Hills – and we can’t wait to continue building on this series,” said Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi. “This also would not have been possible without our incredible volunteers, as well as the groups who continue to organize additional cleanups throughout our district – including Friends of MacDonald Park, Earth Citizens Committee, Metro Village of Forest Hills and Forest Hills Green Team, to name a few – who do an incredible job to foster community engagement and provide people with opportunities to give back.
