Assemblyman Hevesi Volunteers at Local Kosher Soup Kitchen
On Wednesday, September 1, 2010 Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi (D-Forest Hills) volunteered at Masbia, the only Kosher soup kitchen in Brooklyn, NY.
Masbia, located on Queens Boulevard, opened in March and is already serving over 120 people a day. Each three course meal is kosher and contains a starter course, three part dinner including a protein, starch, and a vegetable, and a dessert. Every Thursday, clients are given weekend packages of cooked and raw food to take home and the Assemblyman observed and helped with the distribution. Mr. Hevesi also donned a Masbia uniform and served dinner to the kitchen’s clients.
“Masbia is a unique organization that offers a wonderful service to New York’s underprivileged. I am grateful to have been invited to participate in the activities of this group, and hope that they continue to provide wholesome, quality food to all New Yorkers as they expand their operations and hopefully continue to open new locations,” said Assemblyman Hevesi.
