Assemblyman Anil Beephan, Jr. (R,C-East Fishkill) is celebrating the recent news that the previously-planned congestion pricing measure, set to go into effect in the early summer, is now being indefinitely postponed. The measure would have significantly increased tolls for individual vehicles that enter certain areas of Manhattan. Following months of championing alternatives, including offering reduced pricing for essential workers who commute into New York City, Beephan says he’s glad to see this change in direction.

“Months after my proposal for a pricing exemption was turned down, I’m glad to see the governor has made the right decision – and has saved Hudson Valley commuters in the process,” Beephan said. “New York City is such a high-value economic sector, which is so integral to so many people that live within and outside of its city limits, that this congestion pricing proposal would have seriously hampered numerous travelers. I am hoping this is the last time we have this conversation because this initial proposal left a lot to be desired.”
