Miller Pushes to Halt State Sales Tax for Two Years
A statement from Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,I,C-New Hartford) on A.8481
“Today I joined my Assembly Minority colleagues in calling for the passage of the Inflation Relief & Consumer Assistance Plan (A.8481), which calls for a two-year suspension of the 4 percent state sales tax on many everyday purchases New Yorkers rely upon. As we see the excessive and continual increase in inflation rates reach a 40-year high, consumers should not be stressed with bearing the impact of inflated prices on everyday items, such as fuel, personal care products, housekeeping supplies and prepared foods. In the last year alone, energy bills have gone up nearly 30 percent, used cars nearly 40 percent and gas nearly 50 percent. This plan would save taxpayers $2.6 billion annually and is a great way for us to help all New Yorkers get back on their feet.”
