Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,I,C,Ref-New Hartford) will be voting against legislation known as the Green Light Bill today (A.3675). The controversial bill would allow illegal immigrants and others to obtain drivers licenses without verification of their identity and is widely opposed by New Yorkers across the state, as well as government officials such as county clerks and law enforcement.
Having a license is a privilege for legal New York state citizens. This measure poses very serious security concerns for our state and our nation. I do not believe we should be rolling back security measures to provide drivers licenses for anyone whose identity cannot be proven, said Miller. Law enforcement agencies have stated their opposition to this legislation and I believe we should listen to those who are highly trained in looking after our safety.
Miller also voted against the bill during the committee process as a member of the Assembly Transportation Committee, and will today when the bill comes up for a vote in the full Assembly.
