Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,I,C,Ref-New Hartford) recently honored New Hartford Eagle Scout Gage Kilborne as the young man was awarded the Boy Scouts of America’s Heroism Award by the National Court of Honor for his actions that saved both his own life as well as the life of his mother, Tammy. This is an extremely rare honor. On national average, just 68 scouts are given a heroism award annually.

“This young man represents exactly what our country needs more of in today’s world – a selfless, brave individual who is community minded and achieving goals. His bravery and presence of mind saved his own life as well as his mother’s. It is truly impressive and worth celebrating,” said Miller.

Kilborne was honored with the award for taking command of a situation where his mother suffered a grand mal seizure while she was driving. He was able to get control of the car and steer it safely off the road to avoid other motorists, personal property along the road and a potentially fatal accident. After bringing the car to safety, he administered first aid and sought the help of a nearby resident in contacting 911. He remained composed until first responders arrived and were able to take over.
