Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,I,C,Ref-New Hartford) fought hard to restore state funding for library construction aid during the state budget process this year, and is now pleased to announce a variety of library construction projects have been chosen to receive funding by the New York State Library and Department of Education.

“All throughout our district, libraries play a central role in a community’s identity. From providing residents with a meeting place to offering programming on everything from crafts to technology to story times, libraries have evolved into much more than simply providing books – they are a source of information and connection, and it is vital that we continue to fund them,” said Miller. “I am pleased that we were successful in restoring funding in this year’s budget so that we can continue to fund the capital improvement projects that make our libraries more accessible for everyone.”

Libraries can apply for capital improvement projects to help fund new construction or renovate existing spaces as well as for modernizations such as handicap accessibility, installing new technology, or making efficiency improvements.

Within the 101^st Assembly District, newly chosen projects include four public libraries within three different library systems including the Four County, Mid York and Ramapo-Catskill library systems. In Delaware County, Bovina Public Library will receive $57,315 for the installation of a HVAC system and new floors. In Sullivan County, Grahamsville’s Daniel Pierce Public Library will receive $33,634 for a generator and storm windows. In Herkimer County, two libraries will receive funding: Jordanville Public Library will receive $74,920 to install a handicap-accessible ramp and restroom, along with other improvements; and Little Falls Public Library will receive $21,246 for energy efficiency improvements including windows, doors and lighting.
