Maher Stands with Colleagues in Improving New York’s Child Care System

As a member of the Children and Families Committee, Assemblyman Brian Maher (R,C-Walden) joined his colleagues today to address the shortcomings of New York’s child care system. Emphasizing the need for affordability and accessibility, Maher collaborated with fellow members on initiatives aimed at easing the financial and accessibility burden on families.
Recognizing the state’s child care shortage, Maher proposed legislation that would require a thorough review of existing laws and regulations to identify barriers hindering the establishment of new child care providers. By eliminating these regulations, Maher aims to facilitate the development of much-needed child care facilities across the state (A.8969).
“New York state is facing a major child care shortage, and I have witnessed firsthand as a father of three, with two of my kids in day care full time, some of the challenges our families and child care providers face. It is so important we address this shortage so all families in New York have access to affordable child care programs,” said Maher. “As lawmakers, we have to look deeper into what laws and regulations are stunting the development of much-needed child care
