Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend (R,C-Big Flats) and his Assembly and Senate colleagues recently held a rural equity forum in Bath, New York. Rural New York is essential to our state’s economy but receives little attention from state leaders. The forum included participants from local governments, economic development officials, energy and internet providers, human services providers, law enforcement and education officials. Participants discussed topics such as state support for rural communities, challenges and issues related to mental health in rural areas, increasing broadband access, school transportation in rural areas, lowering poverty rates in rural areas and the effects of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) mandates.
