Friend: Calling On Majority To Bring Ethics Legislation To A Vote
New York politics is famous for public corruption, and this isn’t something to be proud of. With another legislative session about to end, there have been few attempts to fix the rampant corruption in the state.
Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) is calling on the Assembly Majority to advance Assembly Bill 7173 and allow it to come to the floor for a vote before the close of the 2014 Legislative Session on Thursday. This bill would force public officials who breach the public trust to forfeit their pensions and retirement benefits.
“The powers that be in New York State claim they will end government corruption, but in reality, the same practices continue year after year,” said Friend. “This year especially, we have witnessed many activities unbecoming to public officials. With only four days left of session, we must vote on some kind of ethics legislation. If we do not address the problem swiftly, we are tacitly allowing it to continue, and our constituents deserve better.”
