Friend: Skelos Must Step Aside
Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) is calling on Temporary President of the Senate and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Nassau) to resign his post so the government can operate without being further hindered by his legal troubles. Skelos and his son, Adam, have been arrested on charges of using their power and influence for personal gain.
“As we witnessed here in the Assembly following former Speaker Silver’s arrest, it is impossible for a legislative body to function properly for the people of New York when a legislative leader is facing legal issues,” Friend said. “Everything the State Senate does until Skelos steps aside will be tainted by his ongoing criminal trial. We must move toward a more accountable government regardless of party affiliation. It’s time for Sen. Skelos to resign his leadership position so government can continue its business. No one man is bigger than the Legislature.”
