Friend: Gov. and D.C. Delegation Must Reject Syrian Refugees
Following the terrorist attacks in Paris, France, Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) is calling on New York’s Congressional Delegation and Gov. Andrew Cuomo to reject the placement of Syrian refugees in the state. At least nine states already have opposed the refugees being placed in their states: Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Massachusetts and Texas.
“Without a proper way to vet the refugees fleeing Syria, and following the attacks in Paris this weekend, New York must reject the placement of refugees in our state,” Friend said. “Syria is a hotbed of radical Islamic terrorism, and that’s a reality we have to come to grips with before blindly accepting thousands of individuals. We must not be blind to the reason why there is an exodus from Syria either. As a nation and a state, we should be providing food, water and other means of humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people. We simply cannot risk domestic terrorism by bringing so many unchecked individuals into our communities and state.”
