Friend: An Investigation Needed To See Why Medicaid Is Illegally Paying $63,000 for Sexual Dysfunction Drugs
Assemblyman Christopher Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) is calling for an investigation into the Medicaid program which was discovered to have been paying more than $63,000 on erectile dysfunction (ED) and sexual dysfunction drugs, which is a prohibited by both state and federal law. The State Comptrollers Office discovered that 47 sex offenders were receiving these medications. This is not a new occurrence; it was highlighted previously between 2012 and 2018 that more than $930,000 was paid out by Medicaid for ED and other sexual dysfunction treatments.
Medicaid has been paying for nearly $1 million worth of ED and sexual dysfunction medications, violating state and federal law, and these medications are also getting into the hands of sex offenders, said Friend. Immediate action from the Department of Health and the Medicaid Inspector General must be taken to root out the problem and place fines where applicable.
