Assemblyman David Weprin, Queens Library President Dennis Walcott Announce 2016 Summer Reading Challenge
Hollis, New York – Assemblyman David Weprin (D-Hollis) and Queens Library President and CEO Dennis Walcott joined together with children of the Queens Library ‘Drop Everything and Read’ Club at the Queens Library at Hollis to announce the 2016 New York State Assembly Summer Reading Challenge.
To complete the challenge, children are encouraged to read for a minimum of 15 minutes every day for at least 40 days throughout the months of July and August. Children can read alone or with a partner, marking off the days on a provided calendar. Once they’ve completed 40 days or more, the calendar can be submitted to the office of Assemblyman David Weprin so that children can receive their certificates. Calendars and bookmarks are available at the Glen Oaks, Windsor Park, Lefferts and Hollis locations of the Queens Library.
“When we read, we can imagine a wondrous world with endless storylines; we can visit different places on the planet, and for fans of Science Fiction, even other planets or dimensions.” said Assemblyman David Weprin. “I’m glad to be partnering with Queens Library President and CEO Dennis Walcott, and the Queens Library Summer Reading Program to help bring the joy of reading to our children this summer.”
"Summer reading at the library is a great way for children to develop a lifelong love of reading. It helps them retain more learning for the coming school year. Parents love it because it's fun, it's free and it's right in the neighborhood. Assembly Member Weprin's Summer Reading Challenge, along with Queens Library's Summer Reading Program, encourages them to read more and read what they enjoy. Everybody wins!" said Dennis M. Walcott, President and CEO, Queens Library.
