Weprin Delivers School Supplies on Family Math Day
Richmond Hill, New York – Assemblyman David Weprin joined Principal Magdaly Saint Juste and the students of PS 51 Queens to donate supplies raised during Assemblyman David Weprin’s School Supply Drive.
The donation was held during PS 51’s Family Math Day, a day when parents are invited to the school to participate in math programs and where students learn about the importance of math education. After meeting with representatives from Community Education Council 27, Weprin took questions from first grade students on a multitude of issues. The students, aged from 6 – 7 years old, asked about the current election cycle, presidential candidates, as well as questions on how the Assemblyman uses math in his position.
“Math is helpful to us in the legislature when we set the annual budget” said Assemblyman David Weprin. “We use math to determine which areas of the state need funding and to provide money to different programs across New York” he continued. Upon hearing the above, the children continued to question the Assemblyman by asking if he gave money to schools. Weprin replied with a strong “Yes, yes, I do.”
The School Supply Drive was organized by Assemblyman David Weprin’s office; and backpacks, notebooks, art supplies and more were donated by the generous residents of Central and Eastern Queens. PS 51 will use the supplies to benefit students currently living in temporary housing.
