Weprin Elected as Co-President of the National Association of Jewish Legislators
Assemblyman David I. Weprin has been elected to serve as the National Co-President of the National Association of Jewish State Legislators (NAJL). Weprin will be serving with other state legislators on the national board of the organization, responsible for outreach, program development and networking with over 225 Jewish legislators elected to office in over 40 states
NAJL, founded in 1977, is a bipartisan non-profit organization representing over 225 Jewish state legislators in 41 states. It helps develop ways for legislators to share experiences, proactively engage in issues, react to issues of importance to the American Jewish community and strategize ways to address cultural prejudices, assumptions, language and anti-Semitism. Working through NAJL, legislators engage non-Jewish colleagues in search of greater mutual understanding and to work on matters of shared interest.
“I am excited to serve in this position, working with my colleagues in across the nation,” Weprin said, adding “my focus will be on helping my colleagues understand issues of importance to Jewish American communities, including broadening diversity, supporting Israel and addressing antisemitism wherever if occurs. We will also be focusing on efforts to support Israel and to see a peaceful solution in the Middle East.”
NAJL maintains an office in New York City, where it recently partnered with the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, (JCPA), the nation’s umbrella group of Jewish Community Relations Councils (JCRCs) to better provide resources to Jewish community organizations seeking to impact public policy in the state capitols.
