Statement on Selection of John King as New York State Chancellor of Schools

While I appreciate the fact that John King has the educational and training background appropriate for an Education Commissioner, by the same token I have concerns that his history within the charter school movement may create a bias (even an unconscious one) that will disadvantage traditional public schools, which may be particularly true in areas of funding and co-location.
I look forward to working with Commissioner King to ensure that our public schools achieve the highest levels of success, measured in rubrics beyond standardized testing.
