Opposition Grows to Residential Housing on Pier 40
Our fight to ensure that the Hudson River Park remains free of residential development has taken another step forward with the release of this week's Villager newspaper. Please read the article entitled, "It's mutiny on the waterfront as Durst pitches Pier 40 plan" and see for yourself.
Furthermore, I am heartened by the positive feedback I continue to receive from the community about my support for Pier 40 to remain free of residential and hotel development. It is becoming more clear by the day that we can indeed ensure long term financial security of the Park without resorting to the privatization of public space.
The West Village has the 2nd least amount of parkland in all of New York City. We simply cannot afford to lose any more light and air, especially in our Park. To paraphrase former President Clinton, it's simple "arithmetic." Once it's gone, we will never get it back.
I look forward to being a part of a creative solution that keeps the integrity of the Park without resorting to inappropriate development. Thanks again for your continued support.
