Assemblymember Barrett Disappointed in PSC Decision on Building New Power Lines
“For more than two years I have joined with many members of the Hudson Valley to fight this proposal because we have grave concerns about the negative impact monster power lines will have on our region. Today’s ruling by the PSC is counter to scientific evidence showing no need, it displays industry biases, and it will likely result in an expensive and litigious process that will cost Hudson Valley ratepayers dearly.
“Through Reforming our Energy Vision (REV), New York has been a pioneer of environmentally sound policy, yet these transmission lines are a dinosaur – a relic of our past. Hudson Valley residents spoke and said we do not want these transmission lines in our communities. I am troubled that the Public Service Commission, whose function is to work for the people of New York, would move forward with a project with this much opposition when they could not demonstrate a true need.”
