Assemblymember Barrett: Hudson Will Receive $10 Million to Revitalize Downtown

Downtown Revitalization Initiative Award will reinforce Hudson’s historic charm and provide an economic boost to city

Hudson, NY – Joining Assemblymember Didi Barrett (D-Columbia, Dutchess) and Hudson Mayor Tiffany Martin Hamilton at Hudson Hall at the Historic Hudson Opera House Tuesday, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that the City of Hudson has been awarded $10 million as part of the Governor’s Capital Region Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). The award will enable Hudson to revitalize its downtown neighborhood and generate new opportunities for long-term growth.

“This exciting investment by the State of New York, through the DRI, is just the boost the historic City of Hudson, namesake of the majestic Hudson River, needs to channel the tremendous creativity, diversity and entrepreneurial energy that characterizes this community,” said Assemblymember Barrett. “This process will transform Hudson into a vital, sustainable and inclusive 21st century economy – a model for the region and the state. I thank Governor Cuomo and his team and I congratulate the leadership and many active, engaged people of Hudson who have done so much to bring us to this moment.”

Hudson Mayor Tiffany Martin Hamilton said, “I’d like to thank Governor Cuomo for his vision and commitment to revitalizing downtowns across the state and to the Capital Region Economic Development Council for selecting the City of Hudson as the regional awardee for this second round. Downtowns play a vital role in the economic landscape of a City and region and these funds signal a resurgence for Hudson, its businesses and the people who call it home.”

The funding is part of the Governor’s goal to invest $100 million in the ten economic development regions to help communities support and sustain downtown growth. Each of the ten regions held competitions for the respective municipality most deserving of the investment.

“The first round of DRI proved to be a tremendous success – engaging local communities in a bottom-up approach to creating new opportunities for investment in our New York’s downtown areas,” Governor Cuomo said. “Revitalizing a downtown not only boosts businesses and the local economy, but also benefits the residents who call them home and with this funding, the City of Hudson will have the opportunity to reach its full potential.”

The initiative provides $10 million each to 10 cities, chosen by each of the 10 Regional Economic Development Councils across the state, for a total investment of $100 million during each round. Hudson’s proposal for downtown revitalization was selected through the competitive process.
