Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) announced that A.4010-B which passed the Assembly in June 2021 has been signed into law by Governor Hochul. The bill, which was passed with unanimous bi-partisan support, requires the Department of Transportation (DOT) to prepare an annual report on the conditions of state highways and bridges, along with capital programs. The goal is to more closely monitor the conditions of our infrastructure to ensure that repairs and investments are made where they are needed most.

“One of the biggest roles of government is to ensure that our roads and bridges are safe and sound for the many residents who use them daily. I am pleased New York law now requires the careful assessment and reporting of our roads and bridges, so we have a clearer idea of where we need to invest to repair and rebuild,” said Ra, who is the Ranking Republican on the Assembly Ways and MeansCommittee.

The law requires DOT to file four reports: a list of planned projects; accomplishments detailing the amount and types of funds for capital projects; a pavement and bridge conditions report with outlined goals; and a public transportations system capital and needs report outside of the MTA.

“With this better reporting, New York can begin to tackle improving its overall infrastructure conditions and remove the political jockeying that can occur when fighting for its funding,” said Ra.
