Ra Responds to Governor’s Executive Budget Proposal
A Statement by Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square), ranking Minority member on the Assembly Ways and Means Committee.

“The governor has presented what is, once again, her most costly budget ever. As reported, this year’s $252 billion proposal hikes state spending by nearly $8.6 billion and balloons our out-year deficit to more than $27 billion. While it is tempting to take advantage of higher-than-expected tax receipts to continue to grow state spending, this plan fails to re-prioritize our budget in the way needed to put New York state back on firm financial footing.
Instead of addressing our growing structural deficits, this proposal would commit to billions in new spending, gambling on future solutions while leaving taxpayers hanging on a financial cliff.
While I welcome the governor’s newfound focus on affordability, we will never be able to spend our way to a more affordable New York. As we begin the budget process, we need to keep New York’s long-term fiscal stability at the front of mind.”
