A Joint Statement from Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) and Assemblymember Alex Bores (D-Manhattan), Co-Chairs of The New York Future Caucus
“Earlier today, State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were killed in what appears to be a politically motivated assassination. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot multiple times at their home, and as of now, are fighting for their lives.
As co-chairs of the bipartisan NY Future Caucus, and as state legislators ourselves, we are devastated by this attack, and our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
While we continue to learn more about the suspect and motives behind these unthinkable actions, it’s more important now than ever that we, as Americans, come together and stand united in the face of any kind of political violence. Lawmakers may deserve criticism, accountability, and pushback, but never violence directed at them or their families.
Even in these most contentious times, we are all human beings. We pray for the lawmakers, their families, and the entire state of Minnesota.”
